Marble – The Marvel of Nature

Marble is one of seven natural stones which have a massive demand in the world market. To the geologist, marble is a non-foliated, granular metamorphic rock that is formed by the metamorphism of limestone and dolostone. Construction marble is a stone which is composed of calcite, dolomite or serpentine which is capable of taking a polish. A number of minerals and gems can form in marble. Marble is a calcareous rock with a mid-range of hardness, formed usually by fine grain crystals. This composition contributes to a mirror - like polish finish, which is exceptional in stone. Prized for its timeless style, texture and high-gloss polish along with a rich palette of beautiful colors, marble has a place anywhere in the home. Available in solids or dramatic veined varieties, marble may be carved or sculpted in many ways.

Everyone marvels at the elegance of marble. Marble has a legendary elegance. It was used throughout the ancient world because it was soft enough to be worked with tools but hard enough to last through the ages. Once considered the domain of the rich and famous, marble can be used in many applications throughout your home. Marble is crystallized limestone that is not as hard as granite but more porous than granite, making it more susceptible to staining and therefore is more suitable for your foyers, bathrooms, fireplaces, studies or libraries. With it's varied range of colors, textures and veining, marble is the ideal decorative material for fireplace hearths and back panels, vanity tops, walls and floors. White marble was prized for its use in sculptures since classical times. This preference has to do with the softness and relative isotropy and homogeneity, and a relative resistance to shattering.
